Prenatal Massage · 1 hour from Sydney CBD
Warm herbal oils, side-lying Abhyanga, breathwork and quiet — on an island, away from Sydney traffic, or at your home. Every prenatal session is designed by Dr. Nikhila Venugopal and delivered by her or a qualified Ayurvedic therapist.
Why Ayurvedic prenatal massage
Pregnancy in Sydney can feel anything but slow. Long commutes, screens, broken sleep, and a nervous system that never quite settles. Ayurvedic prenatal massage softens all of it — easing swelling, releasing the lower back, and bringing you and baby into a calm, grounded rhythm. This is not a relaxation massage. It is a clinical therapy with a prescription behind it.
Side-lying Abhyanga with warm medicated oils releases the lumbar, hips and glutes safely through every trimester.
Pranayama, gentle Marma points (pregnancy-safe) and oil therapy regulate cortisol, breath and sleep — for you and baby.
Slow lymphatic strokes and herbal compresses ease ankle and leg swelling common in the third trimester.
Shiro Abhyanga (head and scalp oil) settles racing thoughts and helps you stay asleep through the night.
Music therapy and live Bansuri sound work create space for the emotional shifts that come with pregnancy.
Simple, dosha-aware food guidance for energy, digestion and steady weight through pregnancy.
Antenatal care
Antenatal massage at Dangar Island uses medicated sesame and coconut oils selected for your trimester and dosha, applied in slow, grounding strokes with the mother in a supported side-lying position. Marma points that are safe in pregnancy are activated to regulate cortisol, ease the lower back and support healthy circulation for both mother and baby.
By trimester
From week 13 we begin with the lightest touch — Shiro Abhyanga (head and scalp), breathwork and grounding oil application. No abdominal work in the first trimester. The priority is nervous-system regulation, sleep and emotional steadiness as the body adapts to early pregnancy changes.
The second trimester is when side-lying Abhyanga begins in full. Warm medicated oils are applied to the lumbar spine, hips, glutes and legs — where the structural load of pregnancy is greatest. Lymphatic strokes address the ankle and leg swelling that begins in mid-pregnancy, and gentle Marma points support hormonal steadiness.
In the third trimester the focus shifts to birth preparation — opening the hips, softening the sacrum and settling the nervous system before labour. Perineal and pelvic floor awareness work is introduced gently. Breathwork sequences are designed for use in early labour, giving you a practical tool that travels home with you.
Ayurvedic prenatal massage is safe from the second trimester (13+ weeks) when performed by a qualified practitioner. Dr. Nikhila's protocols avoid contraindicated Marma points, use side-lying positioning and medicated oils appropriate for each trimester. We do not work with clients who have placenta praevia, pre-eclampsia or active bleeding without GP clearance.

Inside your session
Each prenatal day is built around your trimester, your symptoms, and how the week has actually been — never a fixed checklist.
The difference between a pregnancy massage at a day spa and an Ayurvedic prenatal session at Dangar Island is clinical depth. Our oils are medicated and chosen for your dosha. Our Marma points are specifically selected for pregnancy safety. Our practitioner is a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. And the setting — an island, car-free, quiet — removes the environmental stressors that most Sydney massage clinics cannot.
Fluid retention and ankle swelling are common from the second trimester onward. Slow, rhythmic lymphatic drainage strokes following the body's natural drainage pathways reduce this swelling gently and safely at any stage of pregnancy.
We understand that travel during pregnancy is not always possible. Our mobile Ayurvedic service brings the same doctor-designed therapies — warm herbal oils, Abhyanga, breathwork and gentle Marma care — to your home across Sydney.
